What will be your legacy?
by Jenn

Memorial Day is a time to remember legacies, sacrifices, and contributions.

As you look backward on your life, it’s a good time to think about how you want others to think of you one day.

Since we’re all on earth for a finite amount of time, ask yourself, “How do I want to be remembered for my time here?”

What do you want to be remembered for?

  • A character trait? Your friendliness, empathy, good humor?
  • An action you’ve taken? A time you spoke up against injustice, a speech you gave, a law you helped get passed, or your volunteer help for a good cause?
  • A lasting contribution? A book you wrote, an idea you developed, a business you built?

Of course, looking backward in the rearview mirror means noticing where you were. You traveled that road. Each day was once the present. Today will be tomorrow’s past.

Back-in-the-day you were facing unknowns. Unknowns and uncertainties that possibly led to fear and panic.

Yet here you are.

When things were overwhelming, and you didn’t have the answers - what kept you going? How did you find the courage to keep moving forward? The tenacity to overcome obstacles thrown in your path?

Your answers are your legacy.

Let’s celebrate Memorial Day by honoring the legacies and contributions of those who’ve helped make the world a better place. Including you.

This is a good time to mention that June is National PTSD Awareness Month.  Learn more about the condition and how to access treatment.

According to the National Center for PTSD, between 7% – 8% of the population will experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during their lifetime.

Men, women, and children can experience PTSD because of trauma in their lives. Events due to combat, accidents, disasters, and abuse are just a few of the causes of PSTD.

If you or someone you know might be experiencing PTSD, visit these resources below, or seek professional care from a therapist who has experience treating PTSD.

Finally, let’s keep the Uvalde community in our thoughts and prayers.
